The Anchor Beertography Challenge

In early December Beertography announced a photo contest in conjunction with Anchor Brewing. I've been a longtime fan of Anchor - even before their convival east-coast competition with Brooklyn Brewery in the NFL Playoffs last season. Admittedly, I have yet to visit their San Francisco brewery location - small details in the grand scheme though, I'll get out there. Anyway! I've had a snapshot idea for since I first heard word of the contest - but needed one critical component: snow. The first batch of snow we received before Christmas was really only a dusting. As luck would have it, the snow again came yesterday and it's still coming down. The mission is completed.

Drink up!

Ultimately, I bribed him for it.

Then, my brothers thought they could do a better job of building a snowman. They were right. There are now two things my brothers are better than me at: disgusting (but normal, I'm told) bodily functions and building snowmen. The photo doesn't really give it justice. This guy was taller than I am. So, we bought another six pack to share with yet another snowman. Those snow people are really into Anchor brewing products. Pretty soon we're going to have the same problems that Calvin has.

Happy Holidays!

Getting Run Over by a Reindeer

This summer, the merry-go-round was playing Christmas Music. It's officially the holiday season. Enjoy the tunes!

The World Wins

Mayans 0 World 1

Cheers, and as Breckenridge Brewery states on their label, plenty of good cheer; good friends ever near. Glad we all made it.

North Pole Brewing Company

Time to get Blitzened. A few of you rec'd cards along this theme.

And if you're needing a bit more holiday spirit, here's my mediocre video clip of the very best Christmas bar I know of (also depicted below).

Lastly, in case you were in question, I am, in fact, on the nice list this year.

A very merry season to you.

Chalkboards in Bathrooms in Bars

Bathroom chalkboards are an awesome location for good ideas. Also probably grimiest chalk ever.

Happy Holidays! I might actually print this and make it the Christmas Card I mail out this year.

Don't mind my misuse of the Corsendonk glass.

I love this.

I saw someone with this taped on their car, too. That was a little weird, but it's still a great message.

My family is so creative.

My aunt's latest Halloween creation is on the left. Aunt Jul has been featured on this blog a number of times (and would have been an additional time had I won her homemade salsa contest, cough cough. I'll happily take second place though.), and this time it is for a semi-creepy dude who she forced me to name. Friends, say hello to Maxwell. Maxwell, say hello to friends.

On the right, is my Ma's headband creation. I wore it all day on Halloween, even through hurricane Sandy. Quite impressive and very stylish.

The only thing I offered towards Halloween this year was pouring beer in a pumpkin, and I've been doing that for years. Ah, that and I was a bumble bee this year for Halloween, and got asked so often if I was channeling the Blind Melon music video that I actually youtubed it. I wasn't close at all.

I'm also going to throw the condescending cat in the mix just for good measure. That thing glows and even though it's way past Halloween it's still up. Walking home drunk past that thing is not fun, not even a little bit.

Challenge Accepted

Turkey, just wait until Christmas for this to become a reality. This is the autocaption assigned to our turkey from Thanksgiving.

PS. This might be the most brilliant idea in awhile. And I've never really thought about it but motorboating a turkey might be really fun. Or weird. But probably fun.

Turkey Exchange

Katrina, a girl I met through Chloe, sent a message that reads the following:
"An effort to decorate the house for Thanksgiving, we will now be accepting handmade turkey hands from all of our friends & family. You are not limited to any medium or size, so be creative! Your artwork will be displayed discussed and admired daily.
Send us one & we will mail you one back!"
So I decided to play along. The bass clef wattle accompanies the treble clef legs for my musical turkey. Super lame, I know, but it was certainly a fun idea.

Anyway Happy Thanksgiving all. It's been a crazy year and I have so much to be thankful for - I certainly am happier than I have been in a long time. Enjoy the delicious holiday and fantastic shopping savings! Don't forget about Small Business Saturday!

UPDATE 29Nov -- I received a Turkey in return! From young James, Katrina's son. So cute! Thank you!

Cake Envy

This is from my cousin's child's first birthday a few weeks ago. How cute is this cake! I love the little mini duck cake below -- that one was just for him.

Drincoln like Abe Lincoln

I do understand that sometimes we're awkward in public.

This weekend was a bit strange in the birthday celebrations. At the time I didn't realize that New Jersey getting a foot of snow was possibly the most normal part of it all. Since when does the coast of New Jersey get snow before the rest of the country? And lots of snow? Perhaps it being the last season of Jersey Shore really bothers mother nature.

Because of the snow, travel was difficult for some members of the party. Still, Thursday night arrived and was kicked off with some live music, stout tasting, and sub-par pool playing, until the birthday was rung in at midnight.

Friday was your average night - Gangnam style with my grandmother, another woman with a walker (no, I did not drink up at a nursing home), and finally me making shots behind the bar FOR the bar. As I walked back to pour the drinks there I realized in all of my 27 years I've never once done that.

I also put my friend's names on miller lights in my fridge and made them hunt for them like easter eggs - sorry about that guys. You're good sports.

Saturday a balloon animal making man was walking around the brewery and made us the man who had the adventures below. He also stopped back later and asked us if we "offended easily", and gave us a few additional balloon objects. I'll leave that bonus object up to your imagination, but I'll give you a hint, it's also a five letter word that starts with BON. All in all, Balloon Man had a pretty good day. Also we ate rattlesnake+cactus pierogies. Very interesting - they were spicy and somewhat like the texture of refried beans, but I psyched myself out too much about them to enjoy them. I think if I hadn't known what they were they would have been tasty.

In case you were wondering, Balloon Man is still alive and well and oddly not even slightly deflated.

After a ride down the incline later on, we walked on to the filming of a rap music video. I will most certainly share that if we're in it.

Sunday it was 70 degrees. We barbecued. Oh yeah. There were more than a few drinks this weekend.

And lastly, we snagged tickets to the tough Steelers game on Monday night. What a blast, and thanks vets.

I'm detoxing. Sort of.

THANK YOU to my friends and family, from close and far, from sober to drunk. What a good, good time this was and 100% because of your assistance in debauchery. I'm still debating sending an "I'm Sorry for Being Drunk and Belligerent" card to the local bar with hopes that I'm allowed back in tomorrow night.

My friends are all adults; I'm still a teenage girl

I go to a lot of weddings. Twelve weddings since 2008; excerpts from eleven of which are shown in the collage below.

So much love for my friends and family, and their exciting life updates!

That's Missus Madame Presidente, Thankyouverymuch

This meeting has been called to order.

Unfortunately the only meeting minutes that were obtained are on the photos below. It's not often that stories are meant to be kept as stories, told over wine and kept as fond memories between friends, but sometimes that is the case. I will state for the record gangnam style, champagne, some pin-the-tail, and a healthy dose of sparkly attire were present.

There is still one thing I'm wondering about. Why would anyone write on a vehicle, in huge letters, "THIS GIRL LOVES BRUNCH"? Nancy Drew, feel free to offer insight within.

Amber and I have had many fun years of adventures and hilarious escapades; really the wedding blog post is no where to begin to put it all together. The photo on the left, from what I know, is the oldest picture of us, possibly even the beginning of all of the nonsense. 2005 was a hella long time ago - and apparently an epic year as it was then that I made some of the best friends I have. We'll have to throw on some of those old costumes when we're 80 and lounging around with mint juleps, lassoing whippersnappers, reminiscing of our youth. Congratulations lady and I can't wait to add Saturday night to the list, and I wish you a glitter covered unicorn to ride off into the sunset on. I hope Shane's cool with that. If he's not - don't worry, Kate and I will figure something out.

And PS - yes, I am secretly hoping there is an after party after reception at Sheetz, similar to the photo on the right. I'm secretly hoping this subliminal advertising will spark additional secret hoping.

Liar, liar, PBR on Fire

It would be great if PBR had the capability to light on fire as an evaluation of fallacies. Think of the purposes! Blind dates, dudes telling you they're single, the list goes on and on. Buy them a PBR and you have an instant lie detector.

So we had a meet and greet with the gym president

BaJock Brobama. You should see his illegal gymigrant policy, and it goes without saying there's only one gun show he supports...

My photoshop is on another computer and I'm impatient. Or, impaintient, since that is what I used in all of its glory. Also of course I have no authorization to use these images.

For more on BaJock's competition, you can view a post on the awkward mustache vice president of the opposing party here.

Ohio City

A couple of Saturdays ago the stars aligned and suddenly all of my plans for the day were canceled. Quickly I thought of a replacement - shockingly, what I came up with was something I actually wanted to do instead of needed to do. A trip to Cleveland to visit Great Lakes was in order!

Admittedly, when planning this adventure, I had to google what "Ohio City" was after seeing it on a couple of Twitter feeds. It's an area of Cleveland that Allie and I learned is spunky and full of personality. A fresh food market is on the perimeter, and a number of restaurants, bars, and breweries make up for the rest of the district. The public areas were filled with tent vendors and a band.

Allie and I arrived in Ohio City on a gorgeous summer Saturday and found free parking. We got out of the car, and saw Farm Stands uniquely in front of the backdrop of the city.

Walking through the market, we found fresh food of all types.

But even the farmers take a little time off sometimes.

Our real purpose of the trip was to visit the breweries, but that was covered in an earlier post. Fun place to be and a good way to spend a Saturday!
